September Quarter Review
Its nice to report that my most recent quarter saw everything proceed as planned. I continued to make investments in line with my plan, and while markets weren’t great, I managed to eke out a positive return thanks in no small part to my dividends. Total returns over the quarter: 3.06%, beating the market slightly.
September 2017 Dividend Update
Dividends showed pleasing growth again this quarter, and reached 5.7% of my current long term quarterly goal. This continues the upward trajectory I’ve seen since I specifically started tracking this data for my blog, but obviously I still have a long way to go! In fact, at this rate, I’d expect it to take another 50 or so quarters!
My portfolio’s expected yearly dividend yield remains fairly attractive at 4.5% fully franked. This is a slight tick down on previous numbers owing almost entirely to the fact that I have recently been accumulating shares in a listed investment company with a lower than usual dividend profile (which I expect to normalise over time).
Perhaps one of the more pleasing parts of this performance is the lower volatility nature of the chart. The market was all over the place over the quarter, while the portfolio performance was far less volatile. Certainly makes it easier to sleep at night.
Quarterly Posts and Quarterly Roundup:
Here’s three of my favourite posts from the most recent quarter:
This one might provide some food for thought if you think markets look a a bit expensive.
Ethical investing is becoming a bigger and bigger deal. A huge part of the queries I deal with in my day job relate to ethical investing. This is my brief guide to what it is, why its important, and who to look for for more information.
Although potentially a little bit racy for some dividend investors, this is one of, if not my favourite, place to look for new investments. Its particularly worthwhile given the strategy has capacity constraints, meaning competition from institutions is not as prevalent. Happy hunting!
Lastly, I thought I’d ask you guys a quick question – what was the best article you read this month? Leave a comment and I’ll check it out.
